Mysore

Mysore Palace
Mysore is known as the City of Palaces and is famous for Dassara. The Mysore Palace is the main landmark, apart from the Sri Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens and the Chamundi Hills.  Mysore Palace is the royal residence of the Wadiyar Dynasty, to date, the palace celebrates Dassara in a spectacular 10-day event.

A part of the palace is let for the general public to view the architecture and paintings that are done by well know artists like Raja Ravivarma of the era. The huge frescos and paintings depict the lifestyle and scenes of the royal family. The paintings are photographic, where one can actually identify the people in them.

One of the most elegant and enticing architectures which are rich is paintings that I have seen is the Darbar Hall. The Kalyana Mantap has elaborate and detailed oil paintings illustrating the royal lifestyle.

Mahishasura
Chamundi Hills in Mysore is famous for Chamundeshwari Temple. The key feature is the statue of Mahishasura. Lalitha Mahal Palace is now converted to a hotel, where one can experience the royal stay. The palace has retained the royal architecture, yet giving it a modern look to the place.
